Highland

The Highland region of malt whiskies is by far the largest by area stretching all the way from Perthshire to Sutherland and has nearly 30 distilleries in operation today. 

Generally speaking Highland malts are more robust than their counterparts in Speyside, with much more use of European oak for maturation and slightly heavier spirit. Highlanders are not adverse to increasing the peat levels in the whisky.
