Strathisla Distillery 15 year old Single Cask First Fill Sherry Hogshead 2008 Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice 55.6% 70cl
Strathisla Distillery
An exceptional 50 year old Glenlivet presented in a beautiful crafted solid wooden display box.
This Single Malt was created in a sherry cask from a different era.
Today it is a requirement that all sherry must be bottled in Spain. When this bottle was placed in a sherry cask before the 1970's it was common practice for sherry to be shipped, still in the cask into Scotland for bottling.
Scottish whisky and wine merchants including Finn's great grandfather's company Peter Thomson's Ltd bottled their own brands of sherry and then used the casks to mature their whisky stock.
The outstanding quality of these fresh sherry casks is blatant when seeing and tasting this whisky.
The fresh sherry cask has left this Single Malt almost black in colour.
Cask Number: 2366
Date of Distillation: 6th March 1970.
Bottle number 006 from a limited number of 126 bottles.
Nose: Deep Oloroso sherry with dried fruits, dates, figs and sultanas. With similarities with an old armagnac, such is the intensity.
Palate: From the first sip, the Single Malt coats the mouth with the voluptuous texture of this unique aged whisky. An initial sweetness, salted caramel is then replaced with the dried fruits, dates, figs and sultanas.
Finn Thomson grew up being inspired by his Granddad, Michael who spent the 1980s and 1990s selecting and collecting the young casks of single malts and grains that had formed the secret recipe of the Beneagles blend, handed down over the generations. In doing so, he accumulated one of Scotland’s largest private cask collections.
This 50 year old Glenlivet distilled in 1970 is an exceptional Single Malt and presented in a beautiful solid wooden case, which opens to reveal this special Single Malt.
