From Gordon & MacPhail a 1997 Single Malt from the Imperial Distillery
Distilled in 1997, which was 1 year before the distillery closed and then bottled by Gordon and MacPhail in 2017.
Nose: Sweet sherry influences with apricot and subtle spices, complemented by a hint of liquorice.
Palate: Peppery with stewed plum, orange and milk chocolate flavours.
Finish: A touch of charred oak.
Originally founded in 1897 by Thomas Mackenzie during Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The distillery was near the village of Carron near Aberlour in Speyside.
Like many distilleries Imperial was closed and re-opened many times during its lifespan however the Distillery was finally closed in 1998 and then demolished in 2013.
The Dalmunach Distillery was then built on the same site and opened in 2015.
The Whisky from Imperial was produced for blends. Single Malts are very rare and usually only found through the Independent Bottlers from casks distilled before closure.
Since 1895 Gordon and MacPhail has worked with the majority of Scotland's distilleries and this very rare bottling from a now silent distillery.
