Port Ellen 1978 The Second Annual Release 24 y/o Islay Single Malt 59.35 % 70cl

This Port Ellen Second Annual Release was Distilled in 1978 five years before the Distillery fell silent in 1983 and then later bottled by Diageo in 2002 at the natural cask strength of 59.35%. 

Aged 24 years old, this very special bottle has an individual bottle number 3789.

Limited to just 12,000 bottles.  

You now have the chance to own this very special limited edition numbered bottle from the original Port Ellen Distillery on Islay.

Port Ellen Distillery was originally established in 1825 and eventually fell silent in 1983, a period when many distilleries fell on hard times. 

This single malt was casked for maturation in 1978 just a few years before falling silent in 1983.

Diageo owned this cask and when they identified a new demand for Single Malt Whisky from silent Distilleries they introduced 17 annual editions called the Port Ellen Distillery Special Annual Release. 

The very First Release was bottled in 2001 followed by this Second Release in 2002.

Each release was limited and individually numbered. 

Diageo released a total of 17 Special Releases and after this announced their intention to re-build the Port Ellen Distillery which was completed in March 2024. 

We have this Second Special Release to be sold on behalf of a private owner who purchased this bottle at the time of release. The private owner has kept this bottle for 20 years before asking us to sell this on his behalf.
