Selkie Blended Malt Scotch Whisky Batch 1 and 2 from House of Macduff 50% 50cl
This is the first and second batch of the Selkie. Both have sold out at House of Macduff and each limited batch of this non-chill filtered whisky is selected from marrying several select casks.
Batch 001 Bottled 2016
This batch contains a blend of many different malts including Bunnahabhain, Glenburgie, Teaninich, Tullibardine and Glengoyne, predominantly from ex-bourbon casks.
This Selkie is the colour of golden straw, the nose is floral and fruity with a hint of peat. A full bodied, spicy flavour, dry with a smooth mouth feel.
The finish is long lasting, complex & velvety.
Batch 002 Bottled 2017
In their search for interesting but complimentary cask and whisky combinations, Batch Number 2 includes some 1995 Macallan, 1996 Aultmore, and 1996 Glenlivet amongst other select whiskies. The Whisky Castle bottled a Secret Taste of Speyside which was a similar blended malt including Macallan, Aultmore and Glenlivet from the same bottler!
This blend of malts has a rich gold colour and a nose of fragrant herbs, esters and cut flowers. The taste is spicy, sweet and fruity with a big character. An over all very pleasant and well balanced dram.
The Selkie Name
The myth of the Selkie originates from the Scottish Northern Isles. They are therianthropes who can shape shift from seal to human by shedding their seal pelt. The folktales often tell of their incredible beauty when in human form.
Because a blended malt is a mixture of malt whiskies from more than one distillery, they felt the Selkie with its 'blend' of man and animal fit the bill well. In addition the beauty and longing from the folktales was something they were also looking to create within their whisky.
Each batch is a non-chill filtered blend of malt whiskies. Limited to a few hundred bottles per batch, Selkie provides a unique drinking experience aimed to capture your affections.
