From the Holyrood Distillery the mindset for Embra was to create a whisky that resembled a gateway to the world of peated whisky. Embra has been triple matured in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels, Islay quarter casks, and New American oak barrels.

Edinburgh is the gateway to Scotland for many people and this is the idea at the heart of this spirit.

Embra finds the perfect balance between capturing the classic bold smoky flavours and textures of peated whisky while remaining accessible to a new whisky drinker. Holyrood Distillery was established in 2019 in the centre of Edinburgh’s historic old town. They pride themselves on an innovative approach to distilling, inspired by Edinburgh’s rich brewing history. There aim is to proactively explore new recipes using heritage malts, speciality malts and different yeasts in their production process.
