The Story of the Cask:
There is a certain symmetry in Scotland's oldest whisky family selecting a cask from Scotland's oldest working distillery Glenturret. A shared respect for tradition, patience and time. In 2020 Finn Thomson had the privilage of working on the distillery's relaunch. Part of this journey involved Finn championing their peated spirit, a style Finn was particularly fond of. A distinctive smokiness that Finn felt set Glenturret apart, balancing weight and elegance in equal measure.
In 2025 the distillery announced that peated production would cease.
Distilled in 2011 this peated Glenturret ximenez spinola Single Malt will be one of the last peated whiskies produced from Glenturret.
The deep rich sherry cask adds depth and richness with the peat bringing a gently BBQ like smokiness.
Finn Thomson grew up being inspired by his Granddad, Michael who spent the 1980s and 1990s selecting and collecting the young casks of single malts and grains that had formed the secret recipe of the Beneagles blend, handed down over the generations. In doing so, he accumulated one of Scotland’s largest private cask collections.
