The Tamnavulin Distilery in Speyside was built in 1966.
This single cask was distilled in 1991, four years before the Distillery was closed in 1995. Then the Distillery restarted production in 2007. With the reopening of the distillery came wholesale changes in production style. It was out with the old stills and in with the new, a move towards a fruitier style of new make spirit.
That old style of Tamnavulin is almost lost, and what makes this cask so special is that the character of the original distillery shines through.
Tasting Notes: Over thirty three years, a refill hogshead has allowed the malty and cereal notes to develop gradually with honey and brown sugar playing amid the cereal nuttiness.
Finn Thomson grew up being inspired by his Granddad, Michael who spent the 1980s and 1990s selecting and collecting the young casks of single malts and grains that had formed the secret recipe of the Beneagles blend, handed down over the generations. In doing so, he accumulated one of Scotland’s largest private cask collections.
